Places to Stay in Berkeley, CA

Many people visit Berkeley for family, for the University, and of course, when touring to see baseball games. As a service, we offer this listing of places to stay in Berkeley, CA. Most hotels are on University, which is not the greatest location but it's a convenient car ride. The Doubletree at the Marina is lovely, as is of course, the Claremont Hotel - the best of the best and a Berkeley landmark. There's a few smaller hotels near campus that are quite reasonable.

    • Holiday Inn Express, University Ave.
Also right next to the public library (free wireless internet).
    • Rodeway Inn, 1461 University Ave.
RI bought an old motel and brought it to the 21st century. Great reviews..
    • TravelLodge, University Ave.
Nothing to write home about but practical.
    • La Quinta Inn, 920 University Ave. Close, but not too close, to the I-80 Freeway.
Recently renovated, has come under new management.
    • Inn at University, Berkeley, University Avenue
recently renovated. Next to AAA office. Ask for room away from University Avenue. Despite name, it's a bit far from campus, though walkable for the heartier. Perfectly reasonable but not special.
    • Hotel Shattuck Plaza, 2086 Allston Way
In downtown. Safe but a bit scungy in that particular section, yet next to theatre, BART, Peet.s Coffee.
    • French Hotel, 1538 Shattuck Ave,
      Very close tothe UC Campus
    • Beau Skye, 2520 Durant Ave
      One block from UC Campus
    • Bancroft Hotel, 2680 Bancroft Way
      Across from UC Campus
    • Durant Hotel, 2600 Durant Ave
Full service hotel, 1 block from campus
    • Golden Bear, 1620 San Pablo.
For the budget-minded. Not a great place but acceptable.
    • Berkeley City Club, 2315 Durant Ave
Housed in a historic Julie Morgan building, although not a fancy digs. Features a wonderful lap pool.
    • Doubletree Berkeley Marina, 200 Marina Blvd.
At the Marina, next to a great park for walking or jogging. Facing the water may be pretty but the electronic buoy will drive the noise-sensitive a bit batty, so getting a room away from the bay might make more sense.
    • Claremont Hotel, Berkeley
a resort - tennis, pool, sauna, nestled in the hills, across from Peet's Coffee
